New Job, New Hair, New Clothes!

4 Aug

In honor of starting my new job, I got myself a new hair do. I chopped off about 6 inches and got some low lights. I also bought myself some new clothes. I am kind of excited to have an excuse to care about how I look. I was at my previous job for 6 years and ended up in a rut with caring about my looks. Everyone would show up in jeans and a t-shirt, and you were the weird one if you got dressed up at all. Honestly, I didn’t really mind it; I enjoy being comfortable, but it’s time for a change, and I’m fully embracing it. A new job, a new do, and a new wardrobe. I’m excited!

Here’s a before and after of my hair. If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve already seen it, and if you don’t follow me there, then you should! πŸ˜‰

I have been doing a little shopping throughout the last week or so to build up my wardrobe. Like I said, I am used to rolling out of bed and throwing on jeans and a t-shirt, so I had zero nice work clothes. I bought a pair of black, grey and khaki dress pants and a few new tops. I shopped at the Outlet Mall and found some good deals at Anne Taylor and Banana Republic. I found my dress pants at Costco of all places. You never know what you’ll find there! They are Calvin Klein too. Score! Here are some of the tops I found…

Blue Tee from Banana Republic. It’s so soft, and I love the color!

I also bought a black cardigan from Banana RepublicΒ to wear over the tanks.

I’m so happy to have some new outfits that I feel confident wearing. It’s been awhile since I’ve felt this good, and I’m getting really excited (and nervous) to start my new job on Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Where do you like to shop for dress clothes? How often do you treat yourself to new outfits? I think I need to do this more often!

It’s Monday…Hello.

29 Jul

Hello Monday,

This is the last Monday that I will go to the job that I’ve had for the past 6 years. This is the last Monday that I will sit at my microscope and check emails, the last Monday that I will chat with friends, enjoy lunch together and go on walks during our breaks. This is such a bittersweet time in my life to realize that today was the last full day at the company where I first started my career as a Cytogenetics Technologist. I have many fond memories of my journey there. I even met my husband there. I grew, I learned, and I experienced so much there. I will miss many things, mostly the people. I have worked with some amazing people in my career, and I will miss the strong working relationships we shared. I am hopeful that I will build new ones at my new job, I am hopeful for new beginnings, a new sense of motivation, and new friendships. I am excited for my new journey!

After work, I went to return some dress pants that I bought last week. I ended up finding some much more affordable ones at Costco of all places. So, I returned the others, but of course I ended up buying something else while I was there. I’ve been in a buying mood lately! I bought a starter kit of Bare Minerals make-up. I have always heard good things about it, and I like that there are only five ingredients used in it. I was hooked when they asked if they could put some on me. I don’t often wear make-up, but I think I should start since I am getting older, and my skin isn’t as young looking as it once was. Do you use Bare Minerals or have you heard anything about it? I am kind of having buyer’s remorse, and I can’t decide if I should keep it or not. Heehee.

After my shopping trip, I picked up some dinner and headed home to my boys. After an early dinner, I took Little Mr. to the park where he explored and explored. He loves walking around and picking things up off the ground. He loves to pick flowers and play in the dirt. It was a really nice evening. All in all, it wasn’t such a bad Monday.

Oh yeah, we also got a new dishwasher delivered (after suffering with our barely functioning one for a year!), and my hubby installed it. I’m so proud of him! He’s never been much of a “handy man”, but he’s been doing a lot of projects around the house lately. I’m excited to start making some home improvements now that he’s in the handy man mode! πŸ˜‰

How was your Monday? Eventful or just another Monday? Hopefully, there was some excitement in it or something that made you smile. πŸ™‚

Going through Big Changes

23 Jul

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks around here. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed lately and haven’t felt like blogging much. I don’t like for blogging to feel like a chore, and, unfortunately, it has felt that way recently. I don’t know why, but it has. I am hoping that it becomes my happy place again soon because I really need one of those right about now. It’s not that I’m unhappy; things are going well, very well. Things are just a little stressful, and new things are on the horizon. I am starting a new job in a couple of weeks, and I am having a hard time dealing with the transition period. I wasn’t seeking out a new job, so it kind of caught me off guard, and I wasn’t prepared to make this transition so suddenly. It is a great opportunity though, something I really couldn’t pass up. It is at a smaller lab here in San Diego. There’s room for growth, and it’s a step up from the position I have at my current job. It is bittersweet though because I’ve been with my current company for 6 years now. I was one of the first few people in my department, and I’ve been through so much with the company and my coworkers. I will miss my coworkers a lot, but I have built lasting relationships with many of them, and I know we will keep in touch. It will be weird to be the “new girl” again because it’s been so long since I have been in those shoes.

I have been experiencing many different emotions related to this new adventure I am about to begin: anxiety, fear, excitement, pride, sadness, guilt, relief. So so many things! This next couple of weeks will be tough because I am filled with anxiety as I anticipate my first day at my new job. I am anticipating what the day-to-day duties and stress level will be like. I am worrying about how my new coworkers will be. Will they be friendly and fun to be around or will I not like them at all? There are so many unknowns as I step into this new endeavor. It’s hard to close such a big chapter in my life, but I’m excited to see what the next one has to offer.

So, that’s a little update about what’s going on with me lately. What’s new in your life? Have you had to go through a big change like this before? How did you adjust?

Thanks for your support!

Busy Bee-Designing a New Site

4 May

Hi Everyone,

I haven’t posted in a few days because I’ve been busy with a big transition. I am in the process of transitioning over to a self-hosted WordPress site. I am working on a new blog design that I am doing all by myself. Well, maybe my hubby is helping a bit too, but it is a long process of trial and error to get things just how I want them. It is challenging, but I am having a lot of fun with it. I am really excited to show you all the finished product and give you the new site info. I plan on finishing it up within the next week, so stay tuned!

5 Tips for How to Eat a Clean Diet

27 Mar

This is the second post where I talk about clean eating and how to make it a lifestyle. Read my first post, “What is Clean Eating: 5 Guidelines to Follow”, here. I want to go into how to start changing your diet to incorporate more “clean” foods. Here are a few ways to get started…

  1. Read labels! This is very important to eating clean. Many foods contain unnecessary additives that can be harmful to your body. My rule of thumb is, if it contains something that I can’t pronounce, I shouldn’t be eating it. Β I also try to stick to foods with 5 ingredients or less. Less is MORE when it comes to treating your body right.
  2. Eat at home. By doing this, you are able to have control of what you are putting into your body. Many restaurants use processed, frozen foods full of sodium and other unknown ingredients that your body does not need.
  3. Do all of your shopping on the outside perimeter of the grocery store. Rarely will you find anything clean in the middle aisles.
  4. Try to buy organic fruits and vegetables and grass-fed lean meats when possible. This is one that I struggle with. Sometimes it can be difficult to fork over the extra money (no pun intended) for these items, especially the meats. They can be expensive! But, your body will appreciate it in the long run. Our bodies were not designed to ingest the harmful additives, hormones, and pesticides that are found in most of the foods we eat today. It’s no wonder cancer and other diseases are on the rise.
  5. Prepare, prepare, prepare! If you have a plan of what you are going to eat each day, and you ensure to bring enough food with you wherever you go, you will not fail. I use to fall into the trap of not bringing enough snacks with me to work which led me to indulging in the crap (bagels, cookies, donuts, etc.) that my co-workers always bring in. Now, I always make sure to have healthy snacks on hand so I am not tempted by these things when I get hungry.

Clean eating has been a work in progress for me, but I have never felt better about my health than I do now. I am never bloated, I rarely get headaches, and I have more energy. I have also enjoyed trying new foods and recipes since eating clean. Some include: cornish game hen and kale (pictured above), grass-fed bison, spaghetti squash, cauliflower mash (tastes just like mashed potatoes, yum!), and different types of homemade hummus. I hope you will nourish your body and give clean eating a try.

Let me know if you have any clean eating recipes or tips to share. πŸ™‚
