Happy Happenings

11 Aug

It was the first week of my new job! It’s been a fun change and I am enjoying it so far. My body is still trying to get used to waking up an hour earlier and driving further, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it in the next couple of weeks. I got to catch up on my sleep yesterday though. I slept 12 hours!! Woo hoo!

The drive to work may be longer, but the view isn’t bad…

drive to work

This weekend was a fun and productive weekend. I finally got around to cleaning the office. I can finally see my desk!!

The hubby was busy this weekend building stuff for Little Mr. and mounting our T.V.’s on the wall. He built a toy box and put together a picnic table for him. He’s such a nice daddy!

TV mounted on wall

This is the TV in our living room. I strategically took the picture when the Cowboy’s logo was up on the screen. Don’t hate me; I’m from Dallas. Who else is excited for football season?!

TV mounted

This is the other TV that my hubs mounted in our son’s new play room. This pic was taken before he neatly tucked away all of the wires. Guess who’s favorite show was on? 😉

picnic table

Here’s Daddy hard at work putting the new picnic table together. This will be the perfect spot for snack time! You can also see Little Mr.’s toy screw driver. He wasn’t anywhere to be found though. Ha ha! Hopefully, he’ll be a good helper when he’s a little older.

free Ivory soap

I was really happy when my package of free stuff from Ivory came in. I won it from Influenster from the Ivory 2-in-1 challenge. Score!!

Last, but not least, here is my favorite picture of the weekend. Cuddle time with my little man. 🙂

I hope you had a great weekend with lots of happy happenings too! What was the highlight of your week or weekend?

I Cried Today

2 Aug

Let me start by saying that I rarely cry. I have never been one of those girls that can cry at the drop of a hat. Sometimes I actually wish I were able to cry more. I think it would make me feel better to get it all out when I get really stressed or sad. But, I’m just not a crier.

This morning I was sitting outside in my backyard drinking my coffee and watching my son play in the yard. I was watching him look around at the trees and stomp through the grass. He was in his own little world, picking up pieces of mulch and picking flowers, just exploring and doing what he loves to do. I sat in awe watching him. I thought about how much he has grown over the past 14 months. I thought of his innocence and how I never want him to lose that part of him, but how I know it’s inevitable that life will eventually take that from him. I thought of how overwhelmingly happy I am to have him in my life. And, I cried. I only shed a couple of tears, but I cried today. I cried happy tears.

cry, happy, mother

baby, boy, innocence

Sometimes it feels good to cry and release emotions that get tucked away behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This was one of those times. Watching my son play in the yard at this young age, where it is his whole world, will be a memory that I treasure forever. I love you my little son, more than words.

Happy Happenings

27 Jul

What happy moments are going on in your life lately? I like sharing mine from time to time. Here are some of them…

I am having a hard time believing how big my little baby is getting. He is becoming a little boy, and it’s happening toooo fast! He loves the park–loves to explore, swing, and get dirty. He’s ALL boy for sure!

Being ALL boy means getting hurt every now and then. This was his first scraped knee. I think I took it harder than he did. He’s a tough little guy!

Do you see that piece of fruit?! ? This is the nectarine tree my hubby bought me for our first wedding anniversary almost two years ago. It has started producing fruit, and it’s actually quite tasty. Little Mr. loves it too!

Speaking of tasty things, I made some Paleo chocolate chip cookies the other night, and they were AMAZING!! I’ll be making them again soon. I just need to go buy some more almond flour…

Another tasty dish that makes me happy is bison burgers with sweet potato fries. MMM MMM!

Look at this dirty little stinker! We took him to the beach again, and he loved it. This time he enjoyed the water too. He walked down to it all by himself and didn’t get afraid of it like the time before. I’m a happy momma! Can’t wait to take him again. Maybe tomorrow!

I’m back at it! Working out 3-4 times a week. I’m slowly starting to build up a routine and keep my focus. I always feel better when I work out regularly which is the number one reason I do it. Secondly, I would like to build some muscle and be in the best shape I can be. I’ll have to post my routine soon so you can join me! You in? 😉

These eggs make me happy too. I love eggs, especially organic, farm fresh eggs. These eggs were given to me by a coworker in exchange for working one of his Saturday shifts. Aren’t they pretty? I wish I had some chickens!

These are some of the happy happenings in my life right now. In between the work and stress of life, I try to find and focus on the happy times. What kind of happy things are going on in your life? I’d love to hear about them!

Guest Post: Spreading Happiness with The Happsters

22 Jun

Hi All! I have a visitor on the blog today. Her name is Kelli from The Happsters. She was one of the first blogger friends that I met. She is in the San Diego area too, so we have been able to get together and build a friendship through our common interests. So happy to have met her, and I love the movement she is starting through her blog. I asked her to stop by and share a little bit about The Happsters. Take it away Kelli…

I started the Happsters in January when I saw that the Today Show had featured a suicide prevention organization called “Happier Boston”. They showed volunteers going to a train station in Boston, holding up happy signs for travelers walking by, and handing out oranges to anyone who wanted them. I absolutely loved the idea and it occurred to me that if people went out of their way to spread happiness, the world would be a happier place. I’ve always been interested in happiness and realized that there wasn’t a movement out there that was created to make the world a better place through random acts of happiness. So I decided to create the Happsters!

We make other people happy and let others know when they make us happy.  One of the ways we  spread happiness is by giving happy notes to express our gratitude to people we encounter (our mailmen, waitresses, family members, friends, etc.). You can become an official Happster & get free Happy Notes here. We also blog about everything related to happiness. Check it out here.

We now have over 320 official Happsters in 20 countries, and our goal is to have 10,000 Happsters spreading happiness in their communities by 2014 (ambitious, I know!).

Happy Happenings #5

18 Jun

I’m sitting here at jury duty trying not to pull my hair out. Bored doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings at the moment. So I thought, what better time than now to reflect on the happy things in life.

Like this little guy smiling at Mickey Mouse on the T.V. or playing in his new Elmo tent…

And my new lovely finds from HomeGoods

Our living room was in need of some more color so I was really happy when I found these colorful chevron pillows! I also found a new comforter set. I have been on the hunt for the perfect one for at least a year now. I knew this was it right when I saw it…

I wanted lighter, neutral toned bedding to lighten up our dark room. I think it’s a nice contrast with the black bed frame.

What do you have to be happy about today?

Happy Happenings

2 Jun

Yay, I’m so happy to finally be able to sit down and write a post. After six days of feeling like poop, I am feeling a little better and have a few free minutes. My hubby and I have been sick with some gnarly food poisoning since Tuesday. Yuck! And, yesterday we had our son’s first birthday party, so any free time I’ve had in between taking care of myself, the hubby, and the babe was devoted to getting ready for the party.

Minus the being sick part, this last week had many happy moments…

Last weekend we spent a couple days in Palm Springs for Memorial Day. It was fun to get away, soak up some sun and have quality family time. Little Mr. loved exploring the condo and swimming in the pool.

Unfortunately, we got sick and didn’t get out much the rest of the week. I had the whole week off so I was looking forward to going to the beach and being out and about, but oh well. We still had fun being together.

Yesterday we had the birthday party. It was a hit! We had a Mickey Mouse themed party, and the lil guy was in LOVE with all of the decorations! He got so many new clothes and cool toys to play with. He enjoyed a chocolate cupcake too. It was bath time right after that! 😉

Cupcake time!

It’s hard to believe my little handsome boy is already one year old! Time has flooown this past year. I’m excited to see what the next year brings. I love watching him grow…best thing in the world!!

I hope you had a happy week too! What happy memories did you make?

Happy Happenings

25 May

I haven’t been posting my Happy Happenings posts weekly like I wanted to because I’ve been so busy lately, but I still do have a lot to be happy about. So, it’s time to take a minute out of my busy day and reflect on a few of those things.

Last weekend we had some family pictures taken of us. This is one of my favorites. 🙂

Tomorrow we are heading out for a mini vacay to Palm Springs. I am happy about that because it will be our first road trip with Little Mr., and it will be a fun getaway with lots of pool time. He loves the water! Wish us luck for the drive though because being cooped up in the car isn’t his favorite thing. I’m hoping for the best though.

Today I got my hair done and picked out a couple of outfits for my trip to Vegas. If you don’t already know, I’m headed to Vegas in a couple of weeks to speak at a conference for my job. I’m getting excited (and nervous of course)!

I’ll be wearing this blue dress for my presentation. It’s classy and comfy which I love!

business outfit from Macy'sThis is the outfit I will wear on the other day of the conference. It’s comfy too actually. I love when comfort and cute can come together in one outfit. You just can’t beat it!

I’m also happy to announce that my friend Sarah from The Four on Board will be stopping by on Monday to do a super fun guest post. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

Well, I’m off to bed now. We’ve got a long day ahead of us tomorrow. I hope everyone has a happy Memorial day weekend! Until next time…

The Reason Behind My Blog

18 May

While I was sitting in one of the white wooden chairs in the audience at Elevate Blog Conference a week ago, I listened attentively to all of the beautiful speakers. They all had a different, personal story to tell, but like the quote that Ashley told us, “That which is most personal is most universal.”, I realized that there was an underlying similarity within all of their unique stories. The similarity was that we all have a story to share. We all want our voice to be heard. Ashley urged us to think about why we want to share our story. Why do we blog about our lives when we could keep it all private? Why do we put ourselves out there in a world that can be cruel and hateful at times? These questions have been rolling around in my brain for a week now. I have thought about the answers countless times, but have been procrastinating when it has come to writing about them. Why? I guess I’ve been scared to get too real. I’ve been scared to be vulnerable and open up too much. But, in that fear I have discovered my reason why.

As far back as I can remember I have been shy, reserved, and fearful of other people. I have had problems making friends, getting close to others and interacting socially. The social anxiety that I have felt at times has been almost debilitating. Big crowds make me cringe. The fear of rejection has dug its talons in deep within me, and it’s been a long, intense battle to break free. This blog is a place to help me break free. After twenty-eight years of living with anxiety and fear, I am ready to break free. I am ready to love myself for who I am and not let the fear of what other people may think take control of me. It has been a work in progress over the years to become free of this heavy weight. Blogging gives me an outlet to be me, let go of my fears, and share my story with others.

I blog because I want to

be real,

be inspiring,

be raw,

and be ME.

Just Be.

I want to share my story with whoever wants to listen. I want to provide an open place where myself and others can feel safe to just be. I want to inspire you to love yourself, be kind to yourself and others, be happy, and be you. This is why I blog. Thank you, Ashley for asking that question and making me think about the reason behind my blog.

A Special Day to Remember

15 May

Elevate Blog Conference

I attended a blog conference called Elevate this past weekend. This was a conference where 55 women bloggers met up to get to know each other, network, and learn new things from each other about the blogging world. I had recently been thinking that it would be cool to go to a blogging conference, so when I saw that Elevate was a smaller, local conference (about an hour from me), I knew that I wanted to be a part of it right away. But, there was only one problem. It was sold out. I put my name on the waiting list, and lucky for me, a spot opened up. When the spot became available, I started to question whether I should go or not. This sort of thing is really out of my comfort zone. I have always been VERY shy and reserved. For me to go to a conference and introduce myself to 55 complete strangers is a HUGE deal for me. It is much easier to talk to people from behind a computer screen, and even that has been a huge leap for me. But, I thought to myself, “You are a big girl. You need to learn to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people.” So, after tossing the idea back and forth in my head and getting the okay from the hubby, I decided to purchase the ticket. I can say now that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Let me tell you why…

When I walked up to the entrance at Newport Dunes, I was immediately questioning if I had made the right choice to come. I did not know anyone. I started to slowly introduce myself to a few people, but soon realized that many of the other women already seemed to know each other. I had kind of already prepared myself for the worst though. I had told myself that it may be really clique-y and I should just take it for what it was. Even if it was a waste of my time and money, I knew it would be an experience that I could be proud of because I took that fearless leap out of my comfortable place.

Elevate Blog Conference

I am so glad that I took that leap because this experience turned out to be so much more than I ever could have imagined.

Summer, Jen, and Nichole planned, decorated, and organized the most amazing event. There was not one detail left out. The decor was absolutely stunning. The schedule was perfectly planned out. There was no disorganization or chaos. It was just perfect! I can’t imagine that it was an easy task to pull off such an awesome conference! Thank you all so much ladies!

Elevate Blog Conference

I met so many fabulous women at the conference. It was a bit difficult to talk to everyone, but the organizers did a great job of mixing up the groups so everyone could move around and get to know each other. I hope to build closer relationships with the women I met through our blogging and social media interactions. They were truly a great group of creative and unique individuals.

In my opinion, the best part of the conference was the unspoken bond that I felt throughout the entire day. It’s presence became even stronger during the speeches that Sarah, Kimmie, Erin, and Ashley gave. There was a sense of unity in the fact that we all have a story to share with the world. We all have a passion for writing about our daily struggles, our happiness, and our lives. We feel whole when we use our words to relate to or inspire others. Feeling this connection with so many other ladies filled my heart and made me happy. At the end of the day, this experience had far exceeded my expectations. I am so grateful that I talked myself into going. I will remember this day for many years to come, the day of my first blog conference, and the memories of this day will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤

Happy Happenings-Week 3

6 May

Every week, I like to do a little recap to sum up all of the reasons I have to be happy. When life is a whirl wind, much like mine is now, it is sometimes hard to slow down and enjoy the little things…the little things that make life worth living, the happy things.

If you’ve missed weeks 1 and/or 2, you can see them here:

Happy Happenings-Week 1

Happy Happenings-Week 2

Here are a few of the happy happenings going on in my life right now…

Giveaway Winnings

I won two awesome giveaways, and my winnings both arrived on the same day! I was stoked! I won a $100 giftcard from Sara at High Fashion 4 Less, and I won a $50 Lisa Leonard gift card from Alyson at Vintage Sunshine. I picked out the Lisa Leonard necklace pictured above. It is the “Jumble of Charms” necklace. I just love it!

On Friday night, I had dinner with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. We shared two sushi rolls that were custom made by the sushi chef, and they were absolutely amaaaaazing!

Queen Bee Market Loot

On Saturday, my friend Kelli from the Happsters and I went to the Queen Bee Market and found some super cute stuff. I finally got a Printed Palette shirt that I have been drooling over for quite a while. I got a handmade Mother’s day card (that I really need to get in the mail!), some cute straws for little Mr.’s birthday party, some cool clothespin magnets, some adorable bobby pins from Little Mamas, and some of the best smelling lotion EVER! The scent is called sweet kumquat, and it’s made by a mother and daughter company called Fresh Batch. All of their products are made from all natural ingredients, and they smell wonderful.

Mickey Mouse Bday

I am in full party-planning mode now since my son’s first birthday party is right around the corner. It is going to be a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed party. He just loves Mickey!

I also have some other fun and exciting things going on within the next month. It is super busy around here lately! I am in the process of switching over to a self-hosted site that I am designing. I recently found out that I get to go to a blogging conference called Elevate. I was on the waiting list, and a spot opened up. Woo hoo! So glad I am only about an hour away from where it’s being held. And, in June, I am giving a presentation at an annual genetics conference in Las Vegas for my job. GULP! I’m just freaking out a little bit! Anywho, enough about all the craziness going on here. What do you have to be happy about today or what’s something you are looking forward to in the near future? I’d love to hear about it! Just comment below to share.
