Hello Again, Monday.

17 Jun

Hello again, Monday. You sure do come around quickly! Why do the weekends have to be so short?

Even though it was a short one (and my little guy was teething and unhappy a lot of the time), we had a good one.

We played at the park on Friday and Saturday…

grass, park, baby

playing, park, grass, baby

outside, sunshine, park, grass, happy, baby

My little man really loves to be outside. Playing in the grass makes his day! 🙂

daddy, Father's day, baby, park, playing

He sure loves his daddy too! We spent the afternoon with my hubby’s family for Father’s Day. It was a nice day. 🙂

I don’t have high hopes of today being a nice day though. I have jury duty. Boo! I hope I get released early!!

I sure hope you are nice to me, Monday.

And, I sure hope today and the rest of the week flies by because I am really looking forward to meeting one of my bloggy friends from A Fox & A Wolf on Friday!

How is your Monday going so far? What do you have planned for this week, anything exciting?

Vegas Recap

11 Jun

I’m baaack!

If you’re wondering how my recent trip to Vegas went, this post is for you. As most of you already know, I was in Vegas for the weekend for a work conference. It was a conference for the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT). Basically, it was a nerd conference for all the big science geeks like me. It was lots of fun!

I arrived to the hotel (The Cosmopolitan) late on Thursday night. This worked out to my advantage because there were only large suites available. Oh darn! So, I checked in to my suite on the 51st floor. The room and the view were incredible!! I wish my hubby could have been there to enjoy it with me, but he had to stay home with the kiddo.

This was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! It was like sleeping on a cloud!

Cosmo suite view (West Tower)

My amazing view of the Bellagio fountains-doesn’t get much better than this! I had a large patio with love seats, ottomans and side tables that I got to enjoy this view from. I even took a little nap on one of the love seats. It was perfect!

I totally lucked out with this room at The Cosmo. I would definitely stay here again. It was fabulous!!

The only negative thing about my stay here was when someone decided to play with one of the fire extinguishers on my  floor. The alarms went off and scared the crap out of me! I packed up all my stuff and ran out of my room in a panic. We weren’t allowed to leave until they made sure there wasn’t a real emergency. This was not fun! I was relieved that it wasn’t a real fire though. That would have been really scary.

I was chosen to give a presentation at the conference. The conference was held on the third floor of The Cosmopolitan. It was a perfect venue with seating for about 300 people. It was a nerve racking experience speaking in front of all of these people. It was my first time doing something like this. I was pretty well prepared because I practiced about five times in front of my hubby and my coworkers. It went much better than I expected. I wasn’t nearly as nervous as I expected to be. When I got up on the stage, the light was quite blinding which kind of helped because I could barely see the crowd. It helped take away the fear of 300 people staring at me because I couldn’t see their eyes. I got through my 15 minute presentation and even answered some questions that one of the audience members had. It was a great experience, and I am very happy I did it.

Selfie before presenting at AGT

Here’s a selfie I took before my presentation.

After presenting and sitting through a few lectures I went up to my room to take a nap. I wanted to go to the pool, but I just didn’t have enough energy to change and walk all the way there (this hotel is huge!). I was worn out! So I napped and then went to the awards ceremony that evening. It was fun to see those that have been in the field for many years earn some recognition.

I ate a lot of delicious food while I was there including a delicious omelette at Henry’s for breakfast before giving my presentation, lunch at Estiatorio Milos that same day and lunch at Olive’s in the Bellagio the day before.

I also had the coolest drink ever at the Chandelier Bar in The Cosmo. We heard about it from one of the bartenders at a different bar. We called it the flower drink; I’m not sure of the official name though.  The flower is called a Szechuan button, and you’re supposed to eat it before drinking the drink. The flower gives your mouth a crazy tingling sensation that lasts for about five minutes. It was really weird, but a fun experience. The drink tasted really good too! It was kind of like a lemon-y, ginger-y margarita. I recommend it!

Overall, the conference was a great time and experience. It definitely helped that it was in Vegas! I am glad I got to go and hope to be able to participate again in the future.

Guest Post from Megan at Absolute Mommy

7 Jun

Hi Everyone! My friend Megan from Absolute Mommy is here to hang out for a bit today. I asked her to do a little guest post while I’m in Vegas for work. Yeah, while I’m there on stage in front of hundreds of people…on a stage…100’s of people…giving a presentation…speechless…or passed out. One of the two. But, seriously, I hope not. I’ll let you know how it goes when I get back. But, for now, enjoy Megan’s post. I love her down to earth, tell it like it is attitude. She’s great!

Hi, I’m Megan from Absolute Mommy, and I’m super happy Natalee invited me over today.  Natalee and I met at Elevate.  We played this icebreaker game of celebrity couples and I was David Beckham and she was Posh.  Yeah, it was pretty awesome!  So I was so excited when she asked if I’d like to guest post.  Well, of course anything for my wife.  If you haven’t met me, let me tell you a little about me, I’m a semi-SAHM from Fresno.  I love all things pop culture, have an unhealthy addiction to Instagram (@absolute_mommy), and I love my iPhone as if it were a third child.  If you like what you see here you can find me at my blog. Thanks for indulging me in doing what I love most, blogging, guest posting, and making new friends!!

I’m a desperate housewife

I’m a desperate housewife.  Every day.  Consistently.  It doesn’t take much for one to become a desperate housewife.  It’s not as glamorous as it sounds.  There are no hot lawn boys.  There are no nannies.  There are no personal chefs.  No my friends, in my neighborhood, the desperate housewives are desperate for other things…
I’m desperate for a minute.  To myself, by myself, in other words alone.  Did I mention I want to spend time alone?  Lately I can’t even pee alone.  You know what I’m talking about.  There is not one spare minute where I’m not up to my eyeballs in parenting.  So please pretty please a moment to pee, breathe, eat, sigh, read one stinking line of a book???
I’m desperate for my own housewife.  Yes, that’s right.  I want a housewife at my own disposal.  I hate housework.  I loathe housework.  My house is constantly messy.  Dr. Seuss books in the pantry.  My Little Ponies on the kitchen table.  As we speak a kitchen table covered in crafting, a laptop, and tonight’s McDonalds.  I could pick up all of this and put them in their places. But I know it will find it’s way back out into our living room, and then back to the table. Really why bother? As you can see I need a housewife to call my own.
I’m desperate for one good night’s sleep.  Just one.  Where I can sleep uninterrupted and wake up on my own.  I don’t want to hear crying babies.  I don’t want my 3 year old alarm clock to start whining about why I left her in her room, ALONE.  I want to go to sleep, IN MY BED, and wake up when I want.
I’m desperate for a day off.  A mental health day if you will.  A day to read a book, watch a Kardashians marathon, sleep the day away, and blog.  A day to save my sanity.  I want a day to do what I want to do, and not have to think about anyone else but me.  Sound selfish?  Sure it does.  So what, I’m desperate.
I’m desperate to be good at being a mom.  Desperate to be semi-good at being a housewife.  Desperate to be my best self.
I’m a desperate housewife, who is grateful to have things to be desperate about. Thankful that one day I’ll get those moments alone.  Those days to myself.  The good night’s sleep.  One day I’ll miss being a desperate housewife.  Especially since I’ll have to find new things to complain about…

Mickey Mouse First Birthday Party

5 Jun

We recently had our son’s first birthday party. We decided to have a Mickey Mouse themed party because he loves the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cartoon.

Mickey Party-1st birthday

We bought some of the decorations and I made a couple of banners, one was a flag banner with a picture of him each month, from the day he was born to 1 year.

1st year banner

It was cool to look at all of them side by side and see how much he has changed over the past twelve months. The other banner was a Mickey Mouse ‘Happy Birthday’ banner.

I also made cupcakes and Mickey Mouse cupcake toppers.

I wish I had thought to buy a cupcake tower before the party started. Oh well, there’s always next year, right? At least he enjoyed them! (Find the recipe here.)

My hubby put a cute slide show together of a bunch of pictures of his first year, and we played it on the T.V. so people could see it as they walked by. I thought it was a nice touch. Great idea, hubby! 😉

We had lots of family and friends come over to celebrate this special event with us. He was spoiled with a ton of new clothes and toys.

1st birthday presents

I am so grateful for all of the love shown to him. All in all, it was a great day!

Happy Happenings

25 May

I haven’t been posting my Happy Happenings posts weekly like I wanted to because I’ve been so busy lately, but I still do have a lot to be happy about. So, it’s time to take a minute out of my busy day and reflect on a few of those things.

Last weekend we had some family pictures taken of us. This is one of my favorites. 🙂

Tomorrow we are heading out for a mini vacay to Palm Springs. I am happy about that because it will be our first road trip with Little Mr., and it will be a fun getaway with lots of pool time. He loves the water! Wish us luck for the drive though because being cooped up in the car isn’t his favorite thing. I’m hoping for the best though.

Today I got my hair done and picked out a couple of outfits for my trip to Vegas. If you don’t already know, I’m headed to Vegas in a couple of weeks to speak at a conference for my job. I’m getting excited (and nervous of course)!

I’ll be wearing this blue dress for my presentation. It’s classy and comfy which I love!

business outfit from Macy'sThis is the outfit I will wear on the other day of the conference. It’s comfy too actually. I love when comfort and cute can come together in one outfit. You just can’t beat it!

I’m also happy to announce that my friend Sarah from The Four on Board will be stopping by on Monday to do a super fun guest post. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

Well, I’m off to bed now. We’ve got a long day ahead of us tomorrow. I hope everyone has a happy Memorial day weekend! Until next time…
