Fun Day With My Ladies

24 Aug

I had the best day today! I got to spend the whole day with my girlfriends at the spa. It was my friend’s bachelorette party celebration, and it was a blast!! We laid out by the pools, took mud baths in red clay, got pedicures, and sipped champagne. It was exactly what I’ve been needing for awhile! Girl time. It’s hard for me to make time for myself to hang out with my girlfriends. Life seems to be so busy for everyone all the time, and it just doesn’t happen often enough. This made today that much more special though.

I’m so glad to have spent the beautiful day with my ladies and can’t wait to do it again!

If you’re in Southern Cali, you should definitely check out the spa we went to. It’s called Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa. I can’t wait to go back!

Guest Post: Spreading Happiness with The Happsters

22 Jun

Hi All! I have a visitor on the blog today. Her name is Kelli from The Happsters. She was one of the first blogger friends that I met. She is in the San Diego area too, so we have been able to get together and build a friendship through our common interests. So happy to have met her, and I love the movement she is starting through her blog. I asked her to stop by and share a little bit about The Happsters. Take it away Kelli…

I started the Happsters in January when I saw that the Today Show had featured a suicide prevention organization called “Happier Boston”. They showed volunteers going to a train station in Boston, holding up happy signs for travelers walking by, and handing out oranges to anyone who wanted them. I absolutely loved the idea and it occurred to me that if people went out of their way to spread happiness, the world would be a happier place. I’ve always been interested in happiness and realized that there wasn’t a movement out there that was created to make the world a better place through random acts of happiness. So I decided to create the Happsters!

We make other people happy and let others know when they make us happy.  One of the ways we  spread happiness is by giving happy notes to express our gratitude to people we encounter (our mailmen, waitresses, family members, friends, etc.). You can become an official Happster & get free Happy Notes here. We also blog about everything related to happiness. Check it out here.

We now have over 320 official Happsters in 20 countries, and our goal is to have 10,000 Happsters spreading happiness in their communities by 2014 (ambitious, I know!).

Have you spread happiness lately to friends, family members, or even strangers? Let me know in the comments!

Hello Again, Monday.

17 Jun

Hello again, Monday. You sure do come around quickly! Why do the weekends have to be so short?

Even though it was a short one (and my little guy was teething and unhappy a lot of the time), we had a good one.

We played at the park on Friday and Saturday…

grass, park, baby

playing, park, grass, baby

outside, sunshine, park, grass, happy, baby

My little man really loves to be outside. Playing in the grass makes his day! 🙂

daddy, Father's day, baby, park, playing

He sure loves his daddy too! We spent the afternoon with my hubby’s family for Father’s Day. It was a nice day. 🙂

I don’t have high hopes of today being a nice day though. I have jury duty. Boo! I hope I get released early!!

I sure hope you are nice to me, Monday.

And, I sure hope today and the rest of the week flies by because I am really looking forward to meeting one of my bloggy friends from A Fox & A Wolf on Friday!

How is your Monday going so far? What do you have planned for this week, anything exciting?

Vegas Recap

11 Jun

I’m baaack!

If you’re wondering how my recent trip to Vegas went, this post is for you. As most of you already know, I was in Vegas for the weekend for a work conference. It was a conference for the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT). Basically, it was a nerd conference for all the big science geeks like me. It was lots of fun!

I arrived to the hotel (The Cosmopolitan) late on Thursday night. This worked out to my advantage because there were only large suites available. Oh darn! So, I checked in to my suite on the 51st floor. The room and the view were incredible!! I wish my hubby could have been there to enjoy it with me, but he had to stay home with the kiddo.

This was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! It was like sleeping on a cloud!

Cosmo suite view (West Tower)

My amazing view of the Bellagio fountains-doesn’t get much better than this! I had a large patio with love seats, ottomans and side tables that I got to enjoy this view from. I even took a little nap on one of the love seats. It was perfect!

I totally lucked out with this room at The Cosmo. I would definitely stay here again. It was fabulous!!

The only negative thing about my stay here was when someone decided to play with one of the fire extinguishers on my  floor. The alarms went off and scared the crap out of me! I packed up all my stuff and ran out of my room in a panic. We weren’t allowed to leave until they made sure there wasn’t a real emergency. This was not fun! I was relieved that it wasn’t a real fire though. That would have been really scary.

I was chosen to give a presentation at the conference. The conference was held on the third floor of The Cosmopolitan. It was a perfect venue with seating for about 300 people. It was a nerve racking experience speaking in front of all of these people. It was my first time doing something like this. I was pretty well prepared because I practiced about five times in front of my hubby and my coworkers. It went much better than I expected. I wasn’t nearly as nervous as I expected to be. When I got up on the stage, the light was quite blinding which kind of helped because I could barely see the crowd. It helped take away the fear of 300 people staring at me because I couldn’t see their eyes. I got through my 15 minute presentation and even answered some questions that one of the audience members had. It was a great experience, and I am very happy I did it.

Selfie before presenting at AGT

Here’s a selfie I took before my presentation.

After presenting and sitting through a few lectures I went up to my room to take a nap. I wanted to go to the pool, but I just didn’t have enough energy to change and walk all the way there (this hotel is huge!). I was worn out! So I napped and then went to the awards ceremony that evening. It was fun to see those that have been in the field for many years earn some recognition.

I ate a lot of delicious food while I was there including a delicious omelette at Henry’s for breakfast before giving my presentation, lunch at Estiatorio Milos that same day and lunch at Olive’s in the Bellagio the day before.

I also had the coolest drink ever at the Chandelier Bar in The Cosmo. We heard about it from one of the bartenders at a different bar. We called it the flower drink; I’m not sure of the official name though.  The flower is called a Szechuan button, and you’re supposed to eat it before drinking the drink. The flower gives your mouth a crazy tingling sensation that lasts for about five minutes. It was really weird, but a fun experience. The drink tasted really good too! It was kind of like a lemon-y, ginger-y margarita. I recommend it!

Overall, the conference was a great time and experience. It definitely helped that it was in Vegas! I am glad I got to go and hope to be able to participate again in the future.

Hello Monday

10 Jun

Hello Monday.

Hello to getting back in the swing of things after being in Vegas for the past three days. What a trip!

Las Vegas strip

Hello to unpacking and laundry. Boo!

Hello to being reunited with my boys. Yay!

Me and my boy

Hello to having the day off to rest and recuperate. I need it!

Hello to getting back on track with eating right and working out. It’s hard to stay on track when you’re living out of a suitcase. I don’t know how some people travel all the time for work. That would be tough.

Hello to blogging again. Did everyone enjoy Megan’s guest post while I was away? She’s so fun! Love her!

Hello to a beautiful sunny day that I plan on enjoying with my family.

Hello to the start of an awesome week! Stay positive my friends and good things will happen!
