Vegas Recap

I’m baaack!

If you’re wondering how my recent trip to Vegas went, this post is for you. As most of you already know, I was in Vegas for the weekend for a work conference. It was a conference for the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT). Basically, it was a nerd conference for all the big science geeks like me. It was lots of fun!

I arrived to the hotel (The Cosmopolitan) late on Thursday night. This worked out to my advantage because there were only large suites available. Oh darn! So, I checked in to my suite on the 51st floor. The room and the view were incredible!! I wish my hubby could have been there to enjoy it with me, but he had to stay home with the kiddo.

This was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! It was like sleeping on a cloud!

Cosmo suite view (West Tower)

My amazing view of the Bellagio fountains-doesn’t get much better than this! I had a large patio with love seats, ottomans and side tables that I got to enjoy this view from. I even took a little nap on one of the love seats. It was perfect!

I totally lucked out with this room at The Cosmo. I would definitely stay here again. It was fabulous!!

The only negative thing about my stay here was when someone decided to play with one of the fire extinguishers on my  floor. The alarms went off and scared the crap out of me! I packed up all my stuff and ran out of my room in a panic. We weren’t allowed to leave until they made sure there wasn’t a real emergency. This was not fun! I was relieved that it wasn’t a real fire though. That would have been really scary.

I was chosen to give a presentation at the conference. The conference was held on the third floor of The Cosmopolitan. It was a perfect venue with seating for about 300 people. It was a nerve racking experience speaking in front of all of these people. It was my first time doing something like this. I was pretty well prepared because I practiced about five times in front of my hubby and my coworkers. It went much better than I expected. I wasn’t nearly as nervous as I expected to be. When I got up on the stage, the light was quite blinding which kind of helped because I could barely see the crowd. It helped take away the fear of 300 people staring at me because I couldn’t see their eyes. I got through my 15 minute presentation and even answered some questions that one of the audience members had. It was a great experience, and I am very happy I did it.

Here’s a selfie I took before my presentation.

After presenting and sitting through a few lectures I went up to my room to take a nap. I wanted to go to the pool, but I just didn’t have enough energy to change and walk all the way there (this hotel is huge!). I was worn out! So I napped and then went to the awards ceremony that evening. It was fun to see those that have been in the field for many years earn some recognition.

I ate a lot of delicious food while I was there including a delicious omelette at Henry’s for breakfast before giving my presentation, lunch at Estiatorio Milos that same day and lunch at Olive’s in the Bellagio the day before.

I also had the coolest drink ever at the Chandelier Bar in The Cosmo. We heard about it from one of the bartenders at a different bar. We called it the flower drink; I’m not sure of the official name though.  The flower is called a Szechuan button, and you’re supposed to eat it before drinking the drink. The flower gives your mouth a crazy tingling sensation that lasts for about five minutes. It was really weird, but a fun experience. The drink tasted really good too! It was kind of like a lemon-y, ginger-y margarita. I recommend it!

Overall, the conference was a great time and experience. It definitely helped that it was in Vegas! I am glad I got to go and hope to be able to participate again in the future.
